Demonstrated success in adult learning and training principles/skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.

Story Behind the Need:

--We are tasked with the support experience for partners as opposed to direct customers. There is a program called Cloud Solution Provider which is a partner program that was launched last year. As new services and products are released into that channel, we are responsible for making sure that support teams are ready and that the partner experience works. Behind the scenes of that there’s a lot of work around reporting, understanding who our partners are, routing rules – which is what gets cases to the right team depending on all of these factors – language, partner type, hour of the day, etc. – there’s a lot of content that has to be written and there are just a ton of projects. Will have to be able to do some outreach to some of the other teams they will be working with and they will need to not be easily deterred by people who don’t respond – support at times can be the last thing that people think of. Need to be self-motivated and able to build relationships with people and be persistent to be successful in this role.

--New business needs

--Finding all the right skills

Typical Day in the Role:

--FT – 40 hours/week – core hours: 8am – 5pm – some flexibility

--What we would really like to have is somebody that we can put on projects to represent support. For example, if we are launching a new SKU for partners and they would go down the list making sure that all the coordination is done from: who’s going to support it, is it a new product or an existing product, is there content out there, is there training out there, when is it going to launch, is there testing that needs to be done, is there routing that needs to be done – all of the things around launching new products or services specifically within the partner channel. There are marketing people and other people who will be doing their own pieces for these launches. This is a global role – generally when we launch these things for partners we launch them in several markets at the same time. They will be working with 5-7 groups of stakeholders outside of support and another 5 within support. While they will be working with technical teams at times, they will not need to know how to code – however they will need to be able to speak experiences and they need to understand how things work on the backend but not in huge detail. They need to be able to understand how read a spec and identify a risk from the experience; but they don’t need to be able to say how to fix that risk, that will be up to the engineering team.

--A lot of this work will be self-directed. A typical day will be 3-4 meetings daily with different stakeholders – they may either own those meetings or be a participant; so they need to be able to both conduct and participate in meetings. A lot of this role is meetings and follow-up – so if they don’t know the answer to something they need to know how to use their resources and track down the answers. There is a lot of offline collaboration with people to follow up on action items from those meetings, building status reports for the broader audience and stakeholders as well as identifying next actions. There are a ton of gaps in our group that nobody currently owns, and we are looking for somebody who can identify them. somebody who can identify them. A lot of the role will be building content and identifying what materials are needed.

--We work across six or seven different services (e.g. Office 365, CRM Online, Azure, etc.) in the partner channel – there are a lot of people to work with and a lot of processes to understand. Everything here doesn’t work the same way – each service has their own portal, and their own support process, so this role will require some flexibility and being able to adapt to a wide set of services and people. They will have to understand how each service is different and how those differences affect the partner.

--They will be managing three or four releases at a time in this role. A release might look something like we want to enable partners to sell a new service through CSP, which is a very specific program. The service has to be integrated into the catalogue and we have to identify what that means – is it a new product or existing product; do we currently have a team that can support this or will we need a new team; working with the engineering team on a timeline; working on support topics – if you release a product how does the partner get support and who will take those issues; training and readiness for whomever is taking those issues; once the service launches, you have to manage the feedback loop – what are partners saying, is it working or not working, what else do they need; working with the content publishing people who do the partner facing content; and managing bugs and issues that come up once the service is released. There will also be some preview work if the service is going to be previewed to a few partners and getting feedback – being involved in Office Hours or Yammer groups to get that feedback on the previews.

--Heavy interaction with team

--Heavy interaction with sponsor

--No travel or expenses

Candidate Requirements:

-- 3-4 years of PM experience. Required. More experience is ideal – will weight experience within Microsoft more.

--No degrees or certifications required

- Communication skills – particularly writing. If they have experience in creating readiness or training content. Need to have an ability to relate the critical points in a concise way – not necessarily in a flashy, sales-y manner. Also Candidates who include writing samples are preferred.

--Independent follow-up on items – are action items followed up on, do we know where they are and can they articulate where they are and what the next steps are? Is the contractor able to raise any risks around projects? Are they able to independently manager projects? Expect it to take about 60 days to fully ramp up within this role.

-- Somebody who has been a PM in support and has experience with our tools. We currently work across all of the incident management tools MS Solve and Cap, Product Studio and TFS, SharePoint

--Need to have the ability to source answers from a wide variety of sources – if they can show that they have worked in cross functional teams. Previous experience with global programs would also be very helpful.

--Resumes need to show that they are able to work independently. They will be part of a team, but it is a small, fairly unstructured team – they need to be comfortable with a lot of ambiguity.

--Quality of work

--Meeting deadlines

Top 3 must-have hard skills:

  1. SQL skills – intermediate for reporting purposes. They will primarily be a consumer of data. They need to be able to look at the various cubes and warehouses that we have and extract the right fields to build the right kind of reporting. Need somebody who is comfortable with, power BI. Previous data analyst experience would be a plus. 2-3 years of experience with SQL.
  2. Need to understand Microsoft technologies for example cloud services – what they are, what they offer, how they are used. They don’t need to be deeply technical.
  3. Proficiency with MS Suite specifically PPT, Outlook, Excel – pivots tables
