***This contract will be working on the Amazon Fresh website. The team doesnt have a dedicated DBA, so this contractor will own everything from end to end. They will need to be able to do coding, network troubleshooting, server change, etc.
***A big portion of the contractor's duties will include taking their turns on the on call duty rotation. It will be about once every five weeks. This on call rotation duty is standard at Amazon for all SDE's. The on call duty will incorporate a trouble ticket system for a high customer impact folder.
***Java is very imporatnt for this role, as well as MVC and root cause analysis. Web page programming is also very important.
***Ownership is the biggest Amazon principle for this contractor, especially for the on call duty portion. Sometimes the problems won't be able to wait, so the contractor needs to be able to drop everything and own the issue. Delver Results is also a major principle.
***The team uses a sprinter scrum methodology. They meet every day. The sprint is a two week sprint that includes a grooming section where they go over requirements, issues they have, etc.
***Good chance of conversion based on performance.
***Interviews will be a phone screen, then a full onsite loop

We are looking for an experienced hands-on software development engineer with experience in developing global distributed technology solutions. The successful candidate will have experience working with distributed teams and building highly scalable services on the Amazon.com software stack. Being able to look at the big picture, architecture, systems design and dive into details of software design and code is key. Our SDEs work alongside Principal Engineers, across multiple teams solving complex issues with creative algorithms and optimization, all on a global scale. All of our systems tend to be loosely coupled, communicating using synchronous and asynchronous messaging, leading to a classic distributed processing architecture. As a Senior SDE working in the AmazonFresh team, you will be responsible for creative input into these systems, and developing them in an Object Oriented and scalable way. You will be dealing with high transaction websites and web services supporting thousands of transactions per second.
We are not tied to one technology instead, we use what is best suited for the purpose. All of our systems tend to be loosely coupled, communicating using synchronous and asynchronous messaging, leading to a classic distributed processing architecture. We are looking for talented SDE/architects who enjoy working on creative solutions, building large-scale systems and who thrive in a fast paced fun environment. Finally Amazon services are part of one of the Worlds largest Production systems. This requires all candidates to balance sustaining and stability issues for a 24x7 environment with new development. You have to love building and inventing on behalf of customers.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree/PhD in Computer Science with 7+ years of industry experience
Strong knowledge of systems architecture, loosely coupled and distributed systems for massive scale
Strong OO Design skills required. Database modeling and UML skills preferred
Web application development experience.
Experience working on cross-browser platforms.
Development experience designing object-oriented JavaScript, CSS, HTML, AJAX, JSON and REST.
Experience with user interface frameworks such as Spring MVC, Struts.
Proficiency in C++, Java, Perl and SQL.
Experience delivering highly scalable, distributed, service oriented systems
Experience with customer facing solutions, fulfillment and/or transportation is beneficial
Proficiency in system-level design, and experience with web services and service oriented architectures; Candidates must think at scale
Strong written and verbal communication
Candidates must be creative, flexible and self-motivated. They must love hard problems, and solve them with clean, reliable, and scalable code.
Experience taking a project from inception through launch. Includes in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and produce technical designs
Proficiency in software engineering best practices.
